Kevin Price, a writer and leading teacher of story writing will be teaching the Master Technique Workshops at the Fellowship.

Kevin has a wealth of teaching experience, having begun his professional writing career in 1987. He has also taught story writing to 250 West Australian students through his Born Storytellers project. The Master Technique Workshops is an extension of his Born Storytellers project. The workshops are particularly suitable for middle school and upper primary school students who have a passion for storytelling, and would like to become confident writers.

HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR STORY IDEAS                         Monday 12th November

Every student encounters the problem of ‘what to write about’. This workshop will show students Master Techniques for finding and developing story ideas. They will leave with ideas but, more importantly, techniques writers all over the world use to make sure they have an abundant supply at their fingertips.

HOW TO PLOT YOUR STORY                         Tuesday 13th November

Developing the plot and knowing how to unravel the mystery so the reader is hooked and held right through to the climax is the storyteller’s art. This workshop will show students Master Techniques of plot, design and development, including how to begin in the right place and end with a great climax.

HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR CHARACTERS             Wednesday 14th November

When we read great stories, we read about characters. This workshop will show students Master Techniques for getting under the skin of the characters they want

to write about, and knowing the personalities, quirks and foibles that make them not only interesting, but irresistible.

HOW TO MASTER DIALOGUE             Thursday 15th November

Dialogue is what gets readers engaged with characters; it demonstrates their personalities, their motivations and goals, and expresses the conflicts and troubles they become embroiled in. The Master Techniques in this workshop will uncover many of the mysteries in writing dialogue, from correct formatting to the use of vernacular and showing growth.

When: 12th November 2012 to 15th November 2012. Workshops are from 9:30 am to 11:30 am  or 12:30pm to 2:30pm daily.

Where: Mattie Furphy House, Bush Heritage Precinct next to Allen Park, Kirkwood Street, Swanbourne

Cost: $11 per student for each session.
