Time to Write

Time to Write

is a self managed group of writers who meet every Tuesday evening from 7 to 9pm at Tom Collins House. Each evening is facilitated by one of the group who will provide a stimulus or topic to write about. The aim is to have some fun writing while gaining skills and motivation.

Evenings are nominally a warm up followed by three fifteen-minute writing sessions. Between each session those who wish take turns reading out what they have written. We are very supportive – these are first draft efforts.

Cost is $5 per session. Please arrive at 6.45pm so we can start on time. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.

Tom Collins House is located at the end of Wood St as it turns into Kirkwood St in Swanbourne. Come down the driveway, there is plenty of parking.

On the last Tuesday of each month we hold a Review Night, providing an opportunity to read out pieces of writing you have spent some time polishing, in order to receive some more focused critique. Bring along one or two pages up to 1000 words, or just come along to hear what others are working on. Review night is a useful forum to share how you are feeling about your own writing and where you are at.

We aim to also do some writing on these nights, especially if the group is small. At the end of the Review Night the facilitator organises the roster for the next month, including finding a volunteer to facilitate the next Review Night.

Facilitating is entirely voluntary, but if you would like to have a go, we enjoy knew ideas. However we suggest you attend about ten Time to Write evenings before volunteering, so you know the kinds of things that work well. If your first night happens to be a Review Night feel free to participate in the discussion as we welcome all feedback.

So welcome along, sit back, relax, write, read, enjoy the camaraderie and have a laugh along the way.
